Last voyage?

On August 22, 2010, John and Pam took Katiman from its Swallow mooring (Hockley Heath) to Alvechurch Marina. This is destined to be the last voyage of Katiman, before she is sold and, presumably, re-named?

Strange?

Through Wasthills Tunnel again, and some more ‘random’ photograpghs!

What does this mean? Strange…? And what has ‘Tipton’ to do with it?

This is on the left wall, travelling towards Alvechurch, about midway through the tunnel.

Katiman spent a couple of weeks, in August 2009, in Stratford basin, surrounded by tourists and holiday makers. Several times Joan had to ask tourists not to sit, uninvited, on the stern of Katiman, although she was pleased to assists with photographs of these ‘fascinating vessels’.

Having come down from Earlswood with Alex and Tony, Joan headed back with Julie.
In between, John, Elliot & Kira came to visit.

Prior to their annual trip to The Lakes, John & Cory joined Katiman on her trip into Manchester.
This canal is usually very low, with restrictions applying to number of boats through the top lock.

Weird Wasthills Tunnel

On 8 May 2005, John, Todd and Cory helped take Katiman through Wasthills Tunnel, on the Birmingham-Worcester Canal.
New-fangled with his digital camera, John took several photographs in the dark based on vague shapes and light they passed.
These show the amazing calcification built up over the years.

Towards Tower Bridge

On Saturday, 10 July 2004, Joan, her son John, and his son Todd, took Katiman down the Thames, from Kingston to Limehouse.

I imagined, being such a big river, being able to sneek down the edge, avoiding any serious traffic. Wrong! There are so many structures sticking out into the river, jetties, boats, The London Eye, that down the (right of) middle we went.

Not too bad (tide not too fast) until we get to the main part of London, where all the passenger ferries whizz about. Enormous chop, and ‘huge’ boats – I would have loved a photograph of us from the river bank (next time?). However, it only lasts a mile or two.

On under Tower Bridge, into Limehouse Lock, moor, and get the beers out – phew!
